Hi, Dan:

I worked as a line manager at SavaJe long enough to know a lot about this story. I started to write it up as a (long) comment, and then had multiple second thoughts, not the least of which is the complexity of the tale -- well, not that bad, but convoluted enough. If you're interested, shoot me an e-mail and we can do it by voice sometime, and then ~you~ can write it up. ;-))

BTW, 'SavaJe' is an anagram of 'JavaSE', which a key to much of the story.

JavaFX compares poorly to Silverlight or Flex (imo). They are much behind these two technologies. But, what's really interesting about JavaFX is that you can deploy for the Desktop, Browser and/or Mobil Phone and you can use any exisiting Java code in your app.
JavaFX Script is a nice language with a lot of functional parts :). But UI-Code and Business-Logic gets easly mixed. In Silverlight there's a great distinction between UI (XAML) and Buisness-Logic (C#,VB,...) code. JavaFX runs on top of the JVM, so its basically an applet what you are delivering with JavaFX.
